The Molecular Biomedicine cluster in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region – established in 2004 by means of a Framework Agreement underwritten by the Ministry of Education, University and Research and the Region – hosts many scientific institutions with multidisciplinary know-how in materials science, nanotechnology, molecular biology, applied research in the field of drug delivery, diagnostics, biomaterials, as well as centres of excellence in clinical care. The cluster’s activity focuses on biotechnologies applied to medicine, in particular in those therapeutic areas bearing the highest impact worldwide: vascular cardiology, neurodegenerative diseases, molecular oncology, hepatology and regenerative medicine. The Centre for Molecular Biomedicine (CBM) oversees the cluster’s development, by setting policies and coordinating activities in line with the needs and potentialities of the network, involving and linking together scientific groups, enterprises, governmental institutions, agencies for development, financing bodies and service providers. In addition CBM offers advanced services for research and business, by providing laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment for shared use and support services for the presentation and coordination of research projects and for the transfer of technology.
